How the hell can people enjoy running? Good lord, it sucks! I ran 3 miles tonight and every single step HURT. I expected to loosen up, but step after step hurt and I wanted to quit from the first 5 steps. I didn’t, but it hurt. I assume that I haven’t completely recovered from the effort to go the 4 miles on Saturday and I need a bit more time to recover, but it was a miserable experience!
Miles Run: 3.09
Time: 36 minutes, 37 seconds

Pounds to Go: 33
Seriously, why do people enjoy this “sport” (torture). Is the mind set, “hey, how can I inflict whole body pain on myself in the most efficient way” when you head out to run?
Do you like struggling to catch a full breath? Are burning calves fun for you? Do you enjoy the surprise of thinking you’ve run another mile only to discover you’ve run a fraction of that? Am I suppose to enjoy the pounding on the soles of my feet and the ache in my knees? Does the mystery of how exactly your back hurts when you are only running keep you going?
Man, every single step hurt and I just could not find my pace. I can’t remember suffering this badly on a run. It felt like I had never run a day in my life. It really was torture! However, on the way home, I was teasing Benjamin about all this and I asked him why runners run and without missing a beat, he said, “Because, it gets better.”
I guess I can’t argue with that and I’ll just have to write this off as a minor setback. It still sucks, but I guess I can stick with it.
Andrea found this challenge online to run 100 miles between now and the end of the year. I have been wanting to run more consistently and have also been wanting to write more often, so I thought it was perfect. I figure I could run and document it here in my blog.
